At the Monahans-Wickett-Pyote ISD September school board meeting, the trustees voted to approve a "District Improvement Plan."
The plan is designed to get all the district school campuses going in the same direction. The strategic goal is for the MWP-ISD to meet state and national educational performance measures and standards by the year 2014.
In addition to the strategic goal the superintendent has set nine individual goals. Each goal has listed performance objectives, summative evaluation, strategies for accomplishing the goal, needs assessment, student population, timeline, budgetary resources and formative assessment, as well as the delegated person in administration and MWP-ISD personnel who is in charge of achieving the goal.
According to Assistant Superintendent Glenna Applewhite, "The Texas Education Agency set up an accountability passing scale for all school districts and charter schools.
"Since 2002, the scale has been moving as TEA phased in the top recommended passing standard for the state school districts.
"The scale has been moving since 2002, but MWP-ISD has kept up with the pace and has stayed ahead of the state averages," Applewhite said. "Although we've kept up, it has been hard for the district to close the gap.
"The scale is now in place, so we are working to close the gap. We want all students to succeed in learning, and everything we do, as a district, is to meet that goal.
The first goal is based on accountability ratings determined by Texas Education Agency, the MWP-ISD would improve and / or maintain exemplary status on all campuses and district wide.
Goal two is to identity additional students that fit the district's criteria for special populations and provide programs and services to improve attendance, motivation and achievement within these student groups.
Goal three requires all students to attend consistently in order to achieve academic success.
Goal four calls for a positive, productive parental and community involvement on every campus.
Goal five is to have open, accessible communication between students, employees and parents to insure a disciplined safe environment on every campus and at all school activities.
Goal six is to provide every student with the opportunity to use technology to aid individual academic growth.
Goal seven the district will develop a long-term plan for facility improvements to efficiently utilize and maintain the present facilities.
Goal eight is to instill in the district's students citizenship, responsibility, pride and respect for their peers, school employees ands school facilities.
Goal nine states communication with all employees at each level of employment will enhance the school environment and allow the operation of the school district to be efficient.
The complete list of the "District's Strategic Goals" and the "District Plan" will be listed on the MWP-ISD web site.
