Eleven Monahans High School Band members
participated in the Area Band competition in Lubbock on Saturday, January 7. All
the students had performed in the Regional auditions and advanced to the area
level.
Three Big Green Band students were named to the Texas All-State Band. They will perform on February 18 in San Antonio at the annual Texas Music Educators Association convention.
This is the highest honor awarded to individual music students in the state. They represent the top 1% of band students who began the audition process several months ago.
Over 1,500 students are selected through a process that began with over 42,00 students from around the state vying for this honor to perform in one of 13 ensembles.
High school students selected to perform in the All-State Concerts have competed through several levels of auditions beginning in the Fall of 2005 to arrive at the state level.
All-State students participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally recognized conductors during the TMEA convention and perform for thousands of attendees at the concerts, which bring this extraordinary event to a close.
