This is the second year local bands have attended the marching contest in Midland.

"It is a great way for all of us to get in the contest mindset before we compete at the UIL Marching Contest," said high school band director Jeff Whitaker.

UIL Contest is scheduled at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa on Oct. 22. the WJH band marches at 2:30 pm, and the MHS Band marches at 4:30 pm.  The theme for this year's "Big Green Band" show is "Fiesta."  The show includes numbers "Espana Cani," "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" and "the Mask o Zorro."

"We had our best performance of the year so far.  This year we raised the level of difficulty.  Our music is harder, our marching drill is more intense, and the students are doing an outstanding job stepping job stepping up," said director Whitaker.

The band also features two soloists this year, Briana French on the French horn, and Felicia Masias has a colorguard solo.
