Four MHS Big Green Band members qualified for All-State Band in Lubbock on January 6. Qualifying for the All-State Band is the highest honor given a Texas high school band student.
Saxophone player Whitney Rutledge qualified for first chair in the Area Round. She is a senior and the daughter of Roy and Michelle Rutledge. This is her second time to qualify for the State level.
Christopher Garcia qualified for first chair bassoon in the Area Round, and this is his second time to quality for the State Band. Christopher was also selected to the 5A All Region Band. He is a junior and the son of Robert and Donna Garcia.
Also qualifying for State Band for his second time is junior Chip Reyes. He earned first chair cornet. His parents are Raymond and Diana Reyes.
First-time qualifier Bobby Fabian is a freshman bass clarinet player. He was second chair qualifier in the Area competition. He is the son of Kenneth and Jamee Fabian.
These students will perform in State competition in San Antonio in February. Good luck to all four winners.
