Last week in San Antonio, Chris Garcia auditioned for a chair in the Association of Texas Small School Bands and was selected as the best bassoon player in the State of Texas for Classes A-AAA.  Chris began the audition process in December 2006, and advanced to the final round, which qualified him for membership in the 2007 All-State Band.  Upon arrival, he completed a final audition and came out on on top.  Chris is a 17-year-old junior at Monahans High School.  He started in Monahans in the sixth grade on the clarinet and soon switched to alto Saxophone.  It wasn't until the middle of his eighth-grade year that he began playing the bassoon.  This was Chris' second time to perform in the All-State Band.  Chris is also an active member of the MHS Tennis Team and PALS.

He is the son of Robert and Donna Garcia.
