by Staff Writers ~~ The Monahans News, February 23, 2009

Four members of the Monahans High School Band were selected recently to the Texas All-State Band.  More than 9,000 high school band students from across Texas auditioned 20 regions for a place in their respective all-region bands.  The top chairs in each region advanced to one of the five area auditions held across the state and only 240  of these 1,360 were selected for all state honors.

The all-state bands met in rehearsals in San Antonio on Feb. 11-14 and presented a concert on Saturday afternoon at the Henry G. Gonzalez Convention Center in downtown San Antonio.  John Whitwell, Director of Bands Emeritus at Michigan State University conducted the All-State Symphonic Band and William K. Wakefield, Director of Bands at the University of Oklahoma, conducted All-State Concert Band.

Selection to the all-state band is one of the highest honors a high school student can receive.

All-State band members selected from Monahans are Bobby Fabian, Junior (bass clarinet)  Third Year All-State, son of Wayne Fabian and Jamee Fabian; Jeremy Durr, junior (percussion) 2nd Year All-State, son of Paul and Sherry Hunter and Larry and Nora Durr;  Tad Bowman, junior (percussion) First Year All-State, son of Dale Bowman and Autumn Nichols; Loren Miller, sophomore (trombone) First Year All-State, son of Brad and Terry Miller.
