The Monahans High School graduating seniors of 2004 will break new ground as they take on college life in the fall. But this highly motivated group will leave their mark!
Of this year's 117 graduated seniors, 46 percent will attend a four-year university, 40 percent plan to attend junior colleges, 8 percent will go to career schools, 2 percent will go into the military, and the last 4 percent will head straight into the work force.
This group of scholars made out like bandits in the scholarship department to the tune of $565,376.
As the old gang heads in various directions, some will attend DeVry, Angelo State, The University of Texas at San Antonio, McMurray, Odessa College, Midland College and Vernon Regional Community College, just to name a few.
Many of these energetic youth earned athletic scholarships in volleyball, softball, and baseball. Many plan to become teachers, psychologists, engineers, scientists, coaches and doctors. Career schools such as fire schools and police services have been the choice of a select few of the 2004 grads.
Cody Harris will go on scholarship to the infantry division of the army, Rocio Valenzuela with attend nursing school with the Air Force, and Bobby Burkholder will enter the ROTC program at the New Mexico Military Institute.
Burkholder will spend two years at NMMI for two years before transferring to another college to complete his four-year degree. Upon completion of his education, Bobby plans to join the National Guard.
Another senior pushing her way to the top is Emily Speed. Emily plans to attend Odessa College for two years before transferring to Texas A&M to complete her degree in biomedical studies or pre-me. Emily says, "I have always had an interest in medicine because of my parents, but mostly because I just enjoy helping people."
Alex Ligon, Jr who plans to attend Angelo State University to major in kinesiology, has a dream to be a coach and math teacher. Alex says, "This is something I know I will enjoy and I can see myself doing it the rest of my life."
Obviously, this group has great aambit6ion and talents. Congratulations from everyone here at the Monahans News, and keep in touch.
