Class of '56 Honors Sallie Young

From Staff Report ~~ The Monahans News, November 3, 2006

The Monahans High School Class of 1956 held their 50th reunion at the Hampton Inn in Midland on October 13, 14.  Approximately 50 of their 75 classmates attended.  The reunion, as others in the past, was headed by Sydney Wells Kennedy.  Guests said Kennedy has done a fantastic job on all their reunions.

The Reunion was special, not only because it was a 50th, but because class sponsors, Mrs. Sallie Sue Young, was the special guest.  Mrs. Young, now 98 years young, served as class sponsors for the group all four yeas of their high school career.

Mrs. Young graduated from North Texas in Denton and began her teaching career in Martins Mill in East Texas.  She came to Monahans in early 1940s, where she taught English and speech.  She taught this class in junior high, and when they graduated to high school, Mrs. Young moved right along with them.  She worked with the class in each of their endeavors.  Mrs. Young left Monahans in 1957 to teach in Odessa.  She has one granddaughter and one great granddaughter.

Classmates agreed that, "Mrs. Young will never be old, as she is Forever Young!"

Also making the reunion special was a visit from Mr. Bill Waldron, one of the group's favorite teachers.

The fondest wish from the Class of 1956 is for every MHS student to have teachers like theirs and classmates who are friends for a lifetime. GO LOBOES.

A special "Thank You" to The Monahans News and to the Class of 1956.
