The Monahans Lady Loboes could not find their offense in time to overcome the league leader Seminole Maidens Friday night, dropping the District 3-3A game 55-24 on the road.
"We really played hard and smart, but we struggled with their size," Coach Treasure Thaggard said.
Monahans (2-3 District 3-3A) could not find a weakness in the Maiden defense, scoring only two points in the second period to trail 27-8 at the intermission.
"We went into the zone to try and stop them , but then they hit us from the outside, "Thaggard said.
Jordan Latham led the Green with seven points on the night and Kym Madrid added six points
Chelsea Cartwright made good on two field goals for four points and Camilla Cutbirth sank three of four free throws to end the game with 3 points.
The Maidens were able to contain Catherine Cutbirth and Dina Ortiz, limiting the MHS shooters to only a field goal each.
"It was tough for us to match their size inside," Thaggard said. "Size was definitely the factor in the game. It hurt our break because we were not able to get defensive rebounds."
Seminole (4-0 District 3-3A) was led by 6'3" Stacie Fitzhugh with 14 points, pounding the lane with seven field goals to lead all scorers.
The Maidens were in double digits in blocked shots, both from inside and outside the key.
"The kids are improving every game," Thaggard said. "Friday night hurt our pride, but we are looking forward to the district games ahead, and like the way we match up."
Monahans will be back in action Tuesday, at the Jerry Larned Sports Complex to host Fort Stockton at 6 pm in a key district game for both schools.
The Prowlers were defeated by Seminole last Tuesday, 57-40. "Fort Stockton will be tough, but our kids our confident and ready for the challenge," Thaggard said. "We just need to get back to our game and do what we need to do to win."
