and the recap....
From Hal Lanham:
"Reunion was magnificent – wow – Sat. nite was awesome! Good going girl! Golf tournament came off beautifully, everybody had a good time; Bobby White local hero! And Marshall Clark closest to the pin even if it did travel on the ground! The whole reunion was Super!"
Hal stayed in Midland to help with his Mom after the weekend and was in an auto accident on the way to the Airport:
"Bizarre thing happened when I tried to take a cab to the airport; Chevy Astro Van cab showed up, cab driver got impatient and pulled out into North bound traffic on Midland Drive from Gulf St. going the wrong way - going south; went past a car in the center turn lane and swerved into the center lane and almost into the correct lane going south, we were hit by a car, turned over and slid on the driver’s side 500-600”. I was suspended from my shoulder harness in the front seat; was able to get the window down pull myself out of the van and jump down and get help. Shoulder harness saved my life. Driver was hurt, don’t know about the man and his small son in the car who hit us; have called to inquire. Am a little bunged up, but I don’t think anything permanent; possibly more hair loss and needed clean underwear! Lesson – always wear your shoulder harness even in a cab!"
Good Point! Hal is sore but fine!
From Phyllis Peterson Hilley:
". . .What a wonderful reunion! I was so impressed, and even Darrell said he could not get over what effort had gone into it. . ..We
are so glad we came!! Hated leaving early, but duty called. . .To all the '65ers, we ROCK!! Thanks for the memories, indeed. Love, Phyllis & Darrell Hilley"
From Larry McClanahan (Class of 1970):
"I returned to East Texas about 5 days after the reunion, had to go to Tyler and stopped at my Son's along the way at Bastrop State Park. They gave me some great news in that Jamie (Todd's wife) is pregnant again and my grandson Zach is going to be a big brother. . .Anyway, I just want to thank the both of you for allowing us to join in on your reunion and I have to say it was the best organized event that I have attended and I thought that Kathy Patterson and I had put on a couple of nice ones a few years back, so we both realize how much effort and time that you gave of yourselves. If by chance that the classes of 69 & 70 can find the energy to put one on again, the class of 65 will most certainly be invited. . .again, thanks for just a fantastic time."
From Durwood Jones (Phyllis Wheeler Jones' Widower):
"Thanks so much for the invitation to the reunion. Phyllis would have really enjoyed it & I wish she had gotten to attend one of the earlier ones.
You guys have a wonderful group of people & should be proud of the relationships you have kept up over the years. I know that ya'll understand that friends and family are what matter in this old world.
. . .the memorial service meant so much to us. It was very touching & I was so glad to be able to attend."
This was from Mrs. Amy Lampley, Phyllis Wheeler Jones' Mother:
"Mrs. Adams: We are so thankful for the service you folks arranged in Midland. We wish to say thank you, thank you, thank you. . .I trust all who attended made it home safely that day. Again, thanks so much for all your work."
Allan Williams said it best though:
". . .Still every night thoughts about the reunion stampede through my mind. I can't stop thinking about each and every hug and handshake. I still don't quite understand what the difference was between them and a lot of other hugs and well wishes that are often discarded and not thought about again. Maybe this is part of the connection Lynn was talking about. Somehow I know that every exchange was received and given in total sincerity and kindredship. I don't know how I know but I do and I have
never felt this before. A week has passed and I am still amazed. . ..Time is proof, but I believe that it was a life changing experience for me. Thank you so much. Love, Allan Williams
P.S. If you have heard from anyone else that felt something similar, please let me know."
