Lobo simmers progress toward future

Lobo swimming2003-2004 was a rebuilding year for Coach Jay Thomas in his fourth season, and by the district meet the team was starting to show progress for the future.

Sixteen of Thomas' young swimmers qualified for regional, and hopes are still alive to send Loboes to state swim meet for the fifth straight season. 

Thomas' pride and joy this season (and the only senior on the team) is Mackenzie Miles.

Arguably the hardest worker to ever come out of the swim program, Miles' swimming ability is only surpassed by the quality person she is, Miles goes to her fourth regional meet, this time in four events.  Both her individual races and the medley relay could earn a call-up to Austin Feb. 20.

Miles is joined by the only junior girl on the team, Sarah Loehman.  Sarah qualified in three relays and 100 butterfly.  Two freshman girls made the regional meet in individual races.

Hillary Torbett and Abbi Meek will swim in Lubbock in the 200 individual medley and the 500 free, as well as the relay races.

Zac Vaughn, third in the 100 backstroke, was the only boy to win an individual medal, but all three boys relay teams will make the trip.
