The Lady Loboes are the new Area Champs after defeating
Sweetwater 3-0 in Big Spring on Saturday, 25-22, 25-8, and 25-20.
Monahans took a quick 4-0 lead in game one that finally broke with a missed serve to give the Lady Mustangs a sideout.
Later, four consecutive aces by Bailey Marcum put Monahans on top 13-3. Sweetwater made a run for a comeback in the second half of the game, but were unable to come out on top, falling by three.
The Lady Loboes were first on the scoreboard in game two after Sweetwater slammed a return out of bounds.
At 15-7, Monahans later went on a nine-point run to game-point with Kati Holly at the serving line. A block fell out of bounds on Seminole's side of the court to stave off the Monahans win, but not for long. A Lady Mustang block attempt dropped to give Monahans the 25-8 win.
In game three, the Green fought its way out to the winning side of three scattered tie scores at two, four and ten, but Sweetwater did not back down.
Heather Schulz broke the ten-point tie with a hit before Jordan Latham made a serve that barely rolled over the top of the net, falling on unsuspecting Sweetwater for an ace. Latham served another ace before missing a serve to hand the ball back to the Mustangs.
At 23-19, Schulz tapped down a Sweetwater overset to put the Lady Loboes at game-point. A Monahans mishap gave the Mustangs another point, but a violation at the net granted the Lady Loboes the 25-20 win.
The regional-quarterfinals are next on the Monahans schedule. The fourth-ranked Lady Loboes will play sixth-ranked Lubbock Cooper.
Cooper defeated Fort Stockton on Saturday in three games.
At 7:30 pm Tuesday, the teams will face off in Greenwood for the regional quarterfinal match.
