Marching Contest

Hello,

I am a former band member, graduated in 1975 (played the Alto Sax) and I was in Sweetwater this past Friday for the first time seeing Monahans play football since moving from Monahans in 1991 to Ohio.  I have never gotten the drum cadences out of my head.. seems they are permanently written there forever which is not a bad thing.

I was wondering if I can get a CD or cassette tape of just the drum cadences from the past and now...I live in Ft. Worth now and the excitement of seeing the band and the football team this Friday was just icing on the cake to the Thanksgiving Holiday I was yelling so much my throat was sore on Saturday.

Thanks so much

Wow, is all I can say when it comes to the enthusiasm you bring to the football games.  we were in attendance at the MHS/Bridgeport game last week an we sat next to the band.  I have a teenage daughter and 3 nieces in the band in Frisco & McKinney, Tx and they begged to sit there so they can see what a West Texas band is like.  I tell you what, they were thrilled to see the excitement and pride the band showed.  You guys did a great job.  I graduated from MHS in 1988 and was in the band with Buzzy Green and then John Black as directors.  They were good but boring directors.  What I saw on Friday night makes me proud to say I am from Monahans and marched for the Big Green Band from Lobo Land.  Congratulations to you guys and the band, a job well done.

Dear Monahan's Band,

WOW!  That is all I could say about the band after the playoff game on Thanksgiving weekend.  I was in town visiting family when someone suggested going to the game.  Being a fan of Texas High School football, there was no way I could pass it up.  I have seen several bands from schools all across the great state of Texas, but none could come close to matching the spirit of your band.

People fail to realize the impact the band can have on the football game.  Not only were you firing up the crowd, but you made it harder to communicate on the field.  Every false start was because of the band.  The Monahans Band is a perfect example of what college teams and coaches fear, excited sound!  That is why the NCAA made the rule of not allowing the band to play when the center is over the ball.  The band knew exactly when to get loud and that caused havoc for the other team's offensive line.  Had the team won the game, they would have needed to put your band director on their shoulders instead of the coach!

The Monahans football team may not have won that thrilling game, but it sure was not due to a lack of support from the band.  You all were truly the 12th, 13th, and 14th man on the field!   Thank you for giving an already exciting game a really fun sound track.  West Texas football is the best around and that is because of great bands like yours!

Best wishes,

Robert Dunn
