School Libraries Organize Books by Genre

School libraries organize books by genre, or "genrefy" them, to make it easier for students to find books they like and to help them become better readers:
- Accessibility: Students can more easily locate books by browsing, and it's easier for students with language barriers.
- Student empowerment: Students can participate in connected reading and feel more empowered to find materials on their own.
- Increased circulation: Students may check out books they wouldn't have otherwise.
- Literacy tool: Genres can help struggling readers feel more confident and anticipate plots.
- Identify reading preferences: Students can identify their own reading preferences and find "read-alikes".
- Transition between series: Students can transition from junior fiction series to genre fiction.
- Librarian knowledge: Librarians can better understand their collection and what their students want to read.
- Collection strengths: Librarians can identify areas of high demand and areas to promote.
